“Out of all the places you wish to make change, change within yourself is a beautiful place to start.”

A Focus on Wellness; not Fitness.

We love physical fitness. Reconnecting to your own body by building strength, increasing flexibility, and gaining mobility have an incredibly powerful effects on your life. And we also believe that our current cultural messages overemphasize physically demanding, achievement-oriented, fitness-based classes as the standard for what wellness looks like. Even beginning classes in more studio are designed for mostly athletic, fit, flexible, able-bodied humans, tricking us into the idea that one has to have an existing level of ability to participate. We seek to change this.

At Yellow Mat Wellness Collective, our intention to help develop other critical areas of wellness including mental, emotional, and social well-being. Additionally, we wish to create a platform for teachers of all backgrounds to share the collective their knowledge and wisdom to create healthier and happier communities.

The Yellow Mat Difference

A New Mantra

Perhaps your idea of wellness is “No Gain, No Pain.” We hope to show you another way. Sure, managing change in your life can be a challenge But with the right mindset, tools, and support, you can learn ways to create meaningful change in your body and in your life. It takes time, patience, and a good dose of positive energy — but most essential, is continued practice. So whether you want to learn to stand on your head, or just keep your head cool under pressure, consider your new mantra “Practice Makes Possible.”

Pay-iT-Forward

Plain + simple: access to wellness is a privilege. So we allow ourselves to constantly innovate better ways to serve. By reducing barriers to entry for students to practice and for teachers to teach, we seek to be a role-model for what sustainable community care can look like.

We strategically partner with brands to create high-quality wellness experiences.

We support independent wellness professionals by compensating them for their services and providing opportunities for continuing education and personal and professional development.

More Practice. Less Preach.

We use our platform to remind everyone that violence, oppression, bullying, discrimination, poverty, and hate are not hallmarks of well-being. We actively use the power of our collective network to create more access to wellness for all. We invite our students and teachers to notice ways where we can learn, grow, become better advocates, or if we fall short of creating an inclusive community — we learn, correct, and practice getting better. Let us know your experience.
